Heart With No Beat Offers Hope Of New Lease On Life
Surgeons have long searched for an artificial heart that won’t break down or cause clots or infections. A Texas team thinks the answer may rest in a device that relies on simple whirling rotors to create a continuous flow of blood — which means living with no pulse. This past spring, the device got its first test in a patient.
